Our Pack

The BSA Cub Scout program has always been a fun and educational experience with a focus on values.  Our mission at Pack 413 is to provide a positive place and program where boys can enjoy safe, wholesome activities of Cub Scouting while focusing on building character, improving physical fitness, teaching practical skills, and developing a spirit of community service.

Our goal is to ultimately deliver the mission of the Boy Scouts of America in our own local community—to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.

About Pack 413

Cub Scout Pack 413 is chartered with the Palmetto Council of the Boy Scouts of America by New Beginnings Methodist Church located in Boiling Springs, SC.

We serve boys in kindergarten through fifth grade in the Spartanburg area. We welcome boys from any school; in fact, our members represent several different area public elementary schools, three private schools, and home-schooling programs.

While our charter partner, New Beginnings welcomes all to worship services anytime, the church supports Scouting as an outreach ministry; there is no requirement to attend or join New Beginnings in order to participate in the Scouting program with Cub Pack 413 or Scout Troop 413.  All boys are welcome.

Our Pack has been established since 2001 and has been consistently recognized by Palmetto Council as a Quality Unit and Gold JTE Unit for achieving and exceeding the standards set by BSA for conducting the Cub Scout program.

Our Pack’s Key Leaders

Marc Craig serves as Cubmaster for Pack 413. He and his wife Lizz live in Boiling Springs. Liz is also a Den Leader in the Pack.

And when he is not working for Scouting, Marc works for Horizon Heating & Air.

Paul Sweeney serves as Committee Chairman for Pack 413. Paul lives in Chesnee with his wife Heather and their children, Katelyn and Andrew. Andrew is an active member of Troop 413.

Paul is also the Daniel Morgan District Commissioner within the Palmetto Council.

Paul is honorably retired from a career with United States Air Force that included multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is an Eagle Scout and member of the BSA Order of the Arrow.

Join Our Pack

If you and your son are interested in joining the Cub Scouting adventure, we invite you to visit us at Pack 413.  We hold our regular meeting each Monday night at 6:30 PM at New Beginnings Methodist at 210 Rainbow Lake Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.  We are located beside the Boiling Springs Fire Department main station just past Walmart on Rainbow Lake Rd.

You and your son are invited to visit any of our meetings and events without obligation or payment of fees upfront.  We want you, your son, and your family to be completely comfortable with joining our Pack before we collect any fees or file your registration.

What’s the Cost?

When you and your son are ready to join Pack 413…the cost to join Cub Scouting is about $82 per year which includes registration, insurance, and fees to cover some of the key activities for the year.   Other additional costs spread over the Scouting year include participation costs for specific campouts, events and activities.  To help families fund Scouting, we conduct two annual fundraisers–Popcorn Sales and Camp Cards.   Your participation in fundraisers is completely your decision.  If you prefer to pay fees out of pocket and not take part in the fundraisers, you are free to do so; however, we have many boys in our Pack that fund their entire Scouting adventure for the year through participation in one or both fundraisers conducted over just a few weeks in the Fall.

In addition to fees, your son will also want to eventually get a Cub Scout uniform.  A new, complete Cub Scout uniform costs $75 to $125 depending on your fabrics, sizes, and style selections.  In addition to purchasing new, there are several uniform options:   Ebay is great resource and our Pack maintains a uniform exchange program where many boys get all or part of their uniform for free.  You can find more detail about BSA uniforms by age and program at bsauniforms.org.

Also, Pack 413 is fortunate to have philanthropic support that allows us to never turn a boy away due to financial need.  Through our Pack fundraisers, uniform closet, camperships and financial gifts from supporters, a boy from a family of any financial position can be a Cub Scout in Pack 413.

Please join us next Monday night!  We look forward to your visit.
